The small town of rishikesh is situated on the foothills of himalayas. A pleasant weather throughout the season. It is famous for its adventure activities which people usually do for a day trip, like river rafting, cliff jump and many more. Which I will mention in future blogs. But what to do in rishikesh apart from camping, rafting.

A lot of people are unaware of the places to visit in rishikesh how to manage time and cover as much as possible, apart from camps where to stay. So, if you are looking for what to do after camping and other adventure activities. Then, you are at the right place.

Today, i will list the famous temple and ashram that are must visit, famous spots to visit and undiscovered places as well. So without wasting much of the time, lets quickly get to the list of the places to visit in Rishikesh.

Places to visit in Rishikesh

There are 3 region where we can visit in Rishikesh. Swarg ashram, outskirts of Rishikesh (shivpuri), tapovan and laxman jhula region.

So, i see Rishikesh as three parts one day for each part. Shivpuri region is famous for its resorts, camp sites, a perfect view of nature's beauty and exploring unexplored sites, including adventure activites as well. Other region is Swarg ashram region which is famous for its temples, different meditation centers, ashrams and ghats for a perfect view of flowing ganges. The last part is a bit less crowded area where you see less of market laxman Jhula region, where you can find peaceful sites a few amazing cafe and unique temples.

There are a lot of temple, shrines, ashrams in Rishikesh, but here are my top picks.

Triveni Ghat

(6-7 pm in the evening)

This is the first tourist attraction in our list. Triveni ghat situated in the heart of the city. The only tourist place which is nearest to the town. Triveni Ghat is famous for its Maha Aarti. Maha Aarti happens at the Ghat twice a day, once is the morning time, once in evening.

If you ask me when is the best time to visit Triveni Ghat, whether in the morning time or in evening. I would say it is a matter of choice as if you just want to attend the Aarti, it is same at both the time, at morning time, a bit chilled breeze makes you feel better. Good for a fresh start of the day. But I prefer to visit in the evening time because of a single point. At evening time, it becomes dark by the time of ending of the Aarti. The devotees releases small oil lamps in water on the boats made up of  leaves, which is a treat for the eyes. That image is picture perfect, moreover, witnessing that moment live is another kind of special experience.

Apart from this the chants of Aarti, the fragrance of the flowers, the sound of the waves, a bit of breeze and the enthusiasm of people there is all amazing part. You will love the view the sounds, it will be a refreshing moment, weather the day has been nice to you or not. So, this is the point at a different corner as compared to the other points, you need to plan accordingly how to cover this point.

 Laxman Jhula

Laxman Jhula is another tourist attraction of Rishikesh, It is said that Lord Rama and Laxman crossed the river from the same point where this bridge is reconstructed now. People visit this bridge for the amazing views of Ganges. As this point i quite away from the main town and River flows a bit fast coming from the mountains the view looks amazing.

On the other side of the bridge there is a temple called 'Tera Manzil temple'. This temple is also in our bucket list. So, you can cover both these points at the same point.

Laxman Jhula can be visited both the times, in day as well as in evening time. In the evening time, the bridge is lightened up with lights attached on the pillars of the bridge which make it look even more attractive. And people visit in day to get a perfect view of the place, location, a good view of Tera Manzil temple. as well as to feel the nature all around, the waves, the sunrays, the sunset view etc.

According me to visit the bridge at 3 to 4 pm and then visit the Tera Manzil temple, return from the temple by 7 to get the perfect Night view as well.

Tera Manzil Temple

As discussed you get a perfect view of this temple from Laxman Jhula and as the name suggest this temple is a thirteen-storey temple. The structure of temple looks very attractive from outside and it is even more attractive from inside.

There are beautifully crated Idols of Gods and Goddesses. Collection of various traditional artifacts is also there which make this even more attractive. The most special part which I personally don't want to miss is the perfect sunset view from the 13th floor of the temple. It is said to be very beautiful and attractive and which is the one thing in my bucket list, this is the reason I suggested you to visit Laxman jhula around 3 pm, so that you can get to experience this perfect sunset view.

This sums up the Laxman Jhula region as well, now we are left with the Swarg ashram region which covers a lot of attractive must visit places that you sure need to cover. Also, we are left with Shivpuri but which is mainly famous for its camping part and adventure sports will be mentioning this in my future blogs.

Ram Jhula

Ram Jhula another attraction of Rishikesh quite similar to the Laxman jhula but this one stays more crowded. The reason is this area is covered in the swarg asshram region the land of ashrams and temple. There is market on the other side of the Ram Jhula which deals a lot of attractive and beautiful stuff.

So, the perks of Ram Jhula is similar as of the Laxman jhula the other part to cover is the market around which deals in local products, house decor, fancy stuff which you can show from the market as a memory from Rishikesh.

And Ram Jhula on the other side opens the door for the Swarg Asshram region. There are a lot of ashrams in that region but I have picked some of the most famous and attractive for you. So, lets move to the list of the places to visit in Swarg asshram.

Geeta Bhawan or Gita Bhawan

Geeta bhawan as the name suggest is a knowledge center for Hindu culture and practices of Hinduism. One could gain a lot of knowledge about Hinduism, their culture, rituals and practices at this place.

Shivnanda Ashram

Another Heavenly place guiding people with spiritual knowledge and spiritual happiness. The ashram is another spot where you can Meditate get guidance about how to meditate.

The place is perfect for quality meditation, as Rishikesh is the land of nature, the ashram has greenery all around, you can sit under trees meditating. And you can also hear the sounds of Ganges while meditating in the Ashram, makes you connect with nature, sound of birds, the Ganges, greenery all around, this is what you need to find the peace.

Beatles Ashram

Last but not the least, we have beatles Ashram. This place was earlier known as Maharishi Mahesh yogi ashram. This Ashram changed its name after the visit of Beatles Band at this asshram, as they wrote a lo of famous songs while their stay in the ashram.
